Vehicle Titles

The fee for a motor vehicle certificate of title, or a duplicate certificate of title is $6. For duplicate registration, the fee is $4. This fee applies to operators or owners of vehicles. For information, contact the DMV, 801-297-7780 or 1-800-DMV-UTAH (800-368-8824).

  1. If your vehicle title is held by an out-of-state lien holder or leasing company, your vehicle will be registered in Utah but not titled. Be sure to bring your current registration and proof of required inspections.
  2. If your vehicle is leased, bring the power of attorney form provided by your leasing company and Utah sales tax number. This gives you authority to register on behalf of the leasing company.
  3. At least one person whose name will appear on the new Utah title must sign the TC-656, "Application for Utah Title". To receive forms by mail, call the DMV at 801-297-7780 or 1-800-DMV-UTAH (800-368-8824). You can also obtain motor vehicle-related forms here.
  4. All motorized boats, sailboats or jet skis used on Utah waters must be registered but are titled only if they are 1985 and newer. In all cases, be sure to bring your current registration and your boat and motor title. Outboard motors 1985 and newer and greater than 25 h.p. must be titled.
  5. All off-road vehicles and snowmobiles used on public lands must be registered but are titled only if they are 1988 and newer. Bring your current registration and your title.
  6. Campers and aircraft are registered through your local county assessors office but are not titled. Bring your most recent registration and any other ownership documents available.
